Several students from the Nampa FFA Chapter joined more than 59,000 attendees from across the nation and U.S. Territories at the 2017 National FFA Convention and Expo in Indianapolis, Indiana. Twelve  Nampa FFA students tested their knowledge and skills against their peers in Agriculture Mechanics and Horse Evaluation events, and engaged in industry visits to garner a better understanding of workforce needs and their expectations.

Nampa High School senior Spencer Stoltey placed 11th in the nation for the Agriculture Mechanics event. The Agriculture Mechanics team, comprising Stoltey, Matthew Stacey (Columbia), Andrew Gutierrez (2017 Skyview grad) and Tyler Duff (Skyview), placed 12th overall, with Gutierrez and Stoltey receiving a Gold award and Stacey and Duff earning Silver.

Anna Peterson (Skyview) paced fifth overall in the performance class  section of the Horse Judging Event. The Horse Evaluation team, comprising Sydney Anderson (2017 Skyview grad), Peterson (Skyview), Shyanne Medley-Stillwell (2017 Columbia grad) and Isabelle Marx (Nampa), ranked 20th in the nation, with Anderson and Peterson earning Gold, Medley-Stillwell earning Silver and Marx earning Bronze.

In addition, members attended multiple leadership sessions, including the opening general session where U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Purdue spoke on the important role youth play in our current and future agriculture economy.
