Crews are finishing up construction of a new walking track in the grass field behind Iowa Elementary School. The paved, quarter-mile track will soon be available for both school and community use.

“Having a walking track opens doors for our physical education program and lifetime sports,” said Chance Whitmore, Iowa principal. The track is being paid for through funds raised by students, as well as by the supplemental levy passed by voters in 2015.

Whitmore said the track will be incorporated into health and wellness lesson plans, as well as being used during recess and lunch. He also hopes to identify additional funds to add fitness stations around the track, allowing users to get a full workout without leaving the track.

“I cannot wait to celebrate kids reaching milestones in our walking club,” he said. “In addition, having the track available as a fitness resource to our patrons is a great way to thank the community for all their support.”
