The Skyview Talkin’ Hawks Debate Team won the 2022 IHSAA State Debate Championship at a competition held March 11-12 at Mountain View High School in Meridian.
A total of 34 schools from across Idaho competed in three divisions and four events. Skyview took the championship in the Medium Schools division, beating out Pocatello’s Century High, which took second place, and Twin Falls, which finished third.
Those awarded medals and recognized in the final round of Congressional Debate were: Lincoln Borrowman, Nathaniel Rawlings, Dylan Case, and Bridger Benson. Yoonsoo Choi was recognized for reaching semifinals in Congressional Debate.
Members of the team recently qualified for the IHSAA State Speech Championships to be held April 8-9 at Highland High School in Pocatello. Skyview will send a total of 13 entries in hopes of placing in the top three in their division.
The team is coached by Director Jeffrey Stoppenhagen and Assistant Director Benjaman Smoldon.
