It’s a dog’s life for Roosevelt Elementary School Principal Shawn Tegethoff, one of 52 recipients of the 2C Spotlight Awards sponsored by the Idaho Press.
At a ceremony held at the Nampa Civic Center, Shawn was recognized for her efforts to introduce two therapy dogs into the school, as outlined in a May 30 Idaho Press story titled “Nampa School District School to Introduce Therapy Dogs.” Jim Everett, co-president of the College of Idaho, was the guest speaker.
Additionally, from the 52 recipients, 12 overall winners in their respective categories were presented with a plaque. Shawn was one of those winners and was recognized in the K-12 Educator of the Year category. She received a ribbon, a plaque and a newspaper magazine recapping this year’s 52 Spotlight stories. These items will be put in a display case highlighting the school’s work with the dogs.
The top award of the evening went to Kim Deugan, a domestic violence survivor and executive director of Advocates Against Family Violence. Also recognized were Mari Ramos, coordinator of the Family Community Resource Center at Snake River Elementary School, and Columbia High School graduate Antonio Ballesteros, who saved another student's life when he was a senior at CHS.
