How will the Proposed Levy Affect Your Property Tax Bill?

For 2023 the Nampa School District has levied approximately $13 million in property taxes from our patrons (bond, tort and supplemental levy funds). With help from the State of Idaho Legislator Property Tax Allocation of $4.9 Million, the Nampa School District only has to levy $4.5 million to patrons to pay off all remaining bonds. Additionally, The State Property Tax Allocation for 2024 is anticipated to be $5 million and will go towards this supplemental levy request bringing down the 2024 request to $9.78 million per year.

The Nampa School District collects a fixed property tax value each year. As more homes are built and existing home values increase, the individual tax burden goes down. The average home value in Canyon County is now about $432,000 (Zillow 2022). This is the difference in approximate total NSD levy rate between the years:

  2023 2024
Assessed Home Value $432,000 $432,000
Homeowner's Exemption $125,000 $125,000
Taxable Value $307,000 $307,000
Tax Rate 0.96 0.76
NSD Total Tax Bill $294.72 $233.28

Total Savings: $61.44/Year

Levy Resolution:

The estimated average annual cost to the taxpayer on the proposed levy is a tax of $72 per $100,000 of taxable assessed value, per year, based on current conditions.

The proposed levy replaces an existing levy that expires on June 30, 2024, and that currently costs $59 per $100,000 of taxable assessed value. Therefore, if the proposed levy is approved, the tax per $100,000 of taxable assessed value is expected to increase by $13 per $100,000 of taxable assessed value.

However, due to the recent State of Idaho Property Tax relief the Nampa School District will no longer need to levy to pay off our previous bonds. Currently we have been paying $34 per $100,000 of taxable value.

**As a result of this relief, the anticipated new levy rate will be $20 less per $100,000.
