NSD Employee Social Media Procedures
From the NSD Employee Handbook:
H-6 SOCIAL MEDIA/COMMUNICATION PLATFORMS
Social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, blogs, etc.) can be valuable tools for sharing information with parents, students, employees, and the broader community. However, all work-related use of social media must follow district policies and procedures and receive prior written approval. Work related use of social media For employees who use social media as part of their job duties for work related communication the following rules apply:
• Written approval from NSD Communications Department and direct supervisor
• Purpose description – the employee must provide a brief explanation of the intended use (coach sharing game updates or department sharing educational resources)
• District email requirement – all work-related social media accounts must be registered using the employees official NSD email address. Use of a personal email account is prohibited.
• Account credentials – employees must provide their supervisor with a username and password for the account. This ensures the district can deactivate or manage the account if the employee leaves NSD or responsibilities change.
• Professional Identity – usernames and handles should include the employees real name and maintain a professional tone.
Usage Expectations
Social media use must support and enhance the employees professional responsibilities and must not:
• Interfere with job duties or performance
• Disrupt the educational environment
• Violate any NSD policy and/or applicable law
All content shared (including text, images, videos, links, and memes) must comply with the same standards that apply to other communication tools (email, phone, website). Inappropriate use includes but is not limited to:
• Sharing political, religious, or sexual content
• Promoting personal business or advertising
• Disclosing private or protected student information
• Sharing personal life updates not relevant to job duties
Reminder: Liking, favoriting, commenting, or re-sharing a post may be interpreted as an endorsement of it’s content.
Public Records Compliance
Do not delete work related posts or content. All work social media communications are subject to Idaho’s Public Records Law and must be retained accordingly.
Conduct and Accountability
Any conduct on social media that negatively impacts job performance, disrupts operations, or harms the district’s reputation may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
